Saddle up your tent for Yorkshire’s Tour de France

The weather is set to be kind for this weekend’s Tour de France, which breaks new ground by starting in northern England. There’s a problem for spectators though. The local b&b’s have all sold out and the larger chains are hiking rates. If you want to stay in the area you’ll just have to camp.

If it’s been a few years since you’ve put up a tent then you’ve a pleasant surprise ahead. The new tents are easy to erect, rarely fall down in the middle of the night and are generally waterproof. The good folk at Salop Leisure are also making it easy for you with this interactive map – though they might be optimistic in thinking you’ll rush out and buy one of their caravans for a weekend away.

A tent will do. There’s no excuse for staying home.
